The Good Shepherd Alliance is a non-profit 501(c)3 Christian organization that has been providing emergency housing and near term support for the homeless of Loudoun County, Virginia since 1983.

While the basic needs for emergency food, clothing and shelter are addressed, we also strive to assist women or families in resolving their homeless situation, stabilizing their living situation in the community and empowering them to become self-sufficient.

Our emergency homeless program offers short-term (30-89 days) 7-days-a-week emergency family shelter to families, women and children temporarily homeless and in need of assistance and networking with local community services. On a typical day we house approximately 32 people in safe, comfortable home-style quarters surrounded by empowered staff members.

Our transitional housing program, still in the development phases, will increase our residents’ sense of inclusion in the community and improve their ability for maintaining stable residency. This will be done through a program that will include job training while teaching independent living skills. Geared to strengthening self-sufficiency, independent living and healthy family life concepts, the program will offer individual counseling, fostering responsibility and increasing independence.

The Good Shepherd uses a network of community volunteers to assist us in maintaining our facilities and work with homeless men, women and children. The organization has called on local painters, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, roofers, car mechanics and landscapers to restore living spaces, vehicles and outdoor areas.Software engineers and technicians have helped to establish computer workstations at all of our facilities.Physicians, dentists, lawyers, and counselors support our residents living in crisis situations. Many high school students volunteer and supply much needed support as tutors for children at the shelters and sorting and hanging of clothing and replenish items on the shelves at our thrift store located at the Regal Center in Sterling. We solicit donations from  churches, service organizations, civic clubs and our dynamic business community. Food is provided for those in our program through the support of neighboring grocers and other organizations, and clothing is available to them from the inventory of the Good Shepherd Alliance’s Thrift Store which is located in the Regal Center on Route 7 in Sterling, Virginia.

The Good Shepherd Alliance is a proud member of the AmeriCorps family.

The Good Shepherd Alliance's efforts for homeless children have been recognized by America's Promise and our Family Shelter was named the first "Shelter of Promise" in the United States.

The Good Shepherd Alliance was named a National Point of Light on August 11, 2004.
